247Sports’ Barton Simmons released a rankings update on prospects for the 2019 and 2020 class.
Vol commit Wanya Morris received some high praise:
Wanya Morris, OT, Loganville (Ga.) Grayson – Morris is one of the highest upside players we’ve seen on the camp circuit to date. The frame is exactly what you want an offensive tackle at this stage to look like. He’s maybe the most athletic tackle in the class and he had the most dominant offensive tackle camp performance of the year. If his film picks up just a tick as a senior, the recent Tennessee commit could work himself into the five-star range.
The phrase that jumps out to most is probably “could work himself into the five-star range.” It’s nice, but I’m still focusing on the praise of Morris’s frame and athleticism. Holding on to Morris through the 2018 season is one of the biggest off the field priorities.
Simmons also had some praise for a couple of in-state prospects in the 2019 class.
Memphis DT Kristian Williams was upgraded to a Top247 prospect. Currently, the Vols are listed as having an offer out to Williams and are competing with Memphis, Minnesota and Louisville for his services.
CB Woodi Washington out of Murfreesboro was bumped to a four-star grade. Washington’s talent wasn’t a secret to coaches across the country. In addition to a Tennessee offer, he holds offers from the likes of Ohio State, Oklahoma, Alabama and Florida.
In the class of 2020, WDE Reggie Grimes is shooting up the board. He’s currently in the Top100. Grimes is from Mount Juliet and, according to Barton, is dripping in edge athleticism and length. Tennessee coach Kevin Sherrer is recruiting Grimes hard.
Overall, the prospect rankings update was a positive for Tennessee.
Current commit Wanya Morris is drawing high praise, and the in-state talent continues to prove fertile.
Tennessee’s coaching staff is full of elite recruiters. They’ll have ample opportunity to prove it.
