Trey Smith Has Another Fight To Win

Tennessee head coach Jeremy Pruitt announced on Thursday that starting offensive lineman and former All-American Trey Smith is once again dealing with blood clots in his lungs.

The announcement comes after doctors discovered the blood clots that Smith dealt with during the spring and summer had returned. It’s worth noting that Smith was a participant in practice on Wednesday.

Per Tennessee, Smith will continue to receive care under the guidance of the University of Tennessee team physicians and he is expected to make a full recovery.

Pruitt released a statement on Thursday stating “The most important thing is for Trey to be able to get healthy. He has been an outstanding student-athlete during my time here on and off the field. Our sole focus for Trey is on his recovery. We are thankful that our medical staff discovered this and is getting him the proper treatment.”

Smith was cleared by doctors to play football in 2018 during fall camp after being diagnosed with blood clots in his lungs in February. Coming off an incident during winter workouts in the weight room.  He was treated for the clots with a six-month course of blood thinners.

Tennessee will likely speak more on this matter on Saturday night or at Monday’s press conference
