A time has officially been announced for this year’s matchup in ‘The Swamp’ against the Florida Gators.
This may come as a shocker, but the game has been announced as a nighttime 8 p.m. kickoff.
Just kidding. It’ll be at it’s normal 3:30 slot. However, this year will be different as Brad Nessler will join Gary Danielson in the booth, replacing 17-year CBS veteran Verne Lundquist.
Last year, the Vols finally defeated the Gators after 11 years of miserable losses with a convincing 38-28 win in Neyland Stadium.
There are certainly a lot of questions for both teams this year. For the Vols, they will have to replace six NFL draft picks, break in a new quarterback and overcome the injury bug that many have already been plagued with. Can this young squad handle The Swamp’s atmosphere and first true road conference test?
For Florida, they will also have to break in a new quarterback most likely. Last year, starter Luke Del Rio was out for the majority of the year due to an injury. However, with the recent addition of former Notre Dame QB Malik Zaire, along with Felipe Franks and freshman Jake Allen, Del Rio will have to push for the job. The Gators also lost the last of Will Muschamp’s defensive players, so there will probably be a noticeable difference there.
In recent memory, it seems the Vols have not had any good luck on the 3:30 CBS time slot. But, with Lundquist now gone and two consecutive victories (UF and UGA) in last year’s CBS games, maybe the television tide is turning in Tennessee’s favor.
