Detrick Mostella is fading away.
Per the University of Tennessee Athletics Department, Rick Barnes has dismissed guard Detrick Mostella from the basketball program.
“I’ve always been very clear about the standards that members of this program will be held to,” Barnes said. “Those standards are very high, and Detrick unfortunately has not lived up to them.”
Mostella was a big reason that Tennessee’s basketball team was so streaky in the first half of their 2016-2017 schedule. At times, he was a player that could heat up, especially behind the arc. He knocked down 95 threes in his time on Rocky Top.
This season, Mostella was shooting 37% from three and 70% from the line as he averaged 10.5 points off the bench. Meanwhile, this is a giant hit to a basketball program where fan apathy seems to have set in.
The team plays hard and has been in big games late all season. However, they haven’t been able to close out wins. Tennessee led in the second half in 13 of 15 games to date, but is only 8-7. As a result, they now look destined for another disappointing season without any blue-chip recruits in sight.
