Game 1

The Drive with Russell Smith vs Talk Sports

The Drive with Russell Smith

Russell Smith

We must start with Russell Smith first- the show is named after him after all. Russell is lanky. Nice size on him. Says he can shoot.

Stopped to ask the author of Game of Thrones, George R. R. Martin to take a picture with him. We’re unsure how being a nerd will affect his play.

Former NBA player comparison: Austin Croshere

Current NBA player comparison: 2016 Dallas Maverick Dirk Nowitzki

Yash Padhye

Yash already has some type of participation trophy that he’s showing off. He plans on doing a lot of participating tonight. Yash is the X-Factor in this first round match-up. He claims he can shoot. He’ll need to hit some timely shots.

Former NBA Player Comparison: Cleveland Cavalier Matthew Dellavedova
Current NBA Player Comparison:  Milwaukee Buck Matthew Dellavedova

Chance Collins

Chance is the physical specimen of the Drive. However, we’ve all seen the guy with muscles that doesn’t have the necessary touch to play basketball. Chance went to Hollywood once, but can he handle the bright lights?

Former NBA Player Comparison:  2002 Scottie Pippen
Current NBA Player Comparison: Boston Celtic Gordon Hayward

Talk Sports, 10am-1pm

Jon Reed
Jon “The Tractor” Reed loves to bang bodies with the boys on the block. A streaky 3-point shooter with irrational confidence. Can guard bigger players in the post and foul just enough to keep defender from going by him on the perimeter while also not fouling enough for them to continuously call fouls.

Former NBA player comparison: 2011 Zach Randolph
Current  NBA player comparison: Golden State Warrior Draymond Green

Boomer Dangel

Dangel is a gritty, pass-first point guard that cut his teeth at Rucker Park during summer break while away at school at Syracuse. His main responsibility is stopping Yash from scoring. When asked about the challenge he said, “Yash will score no more than 2 points the entire night.”

Former NBA player comparison: Post-MVP Steve Nash
Current NBA player comparison: Philadelphia 76ers TJ McConnel

Davis Studdard
The producer of Talk Sports is a pass-first point forward with nice length that makes him a nightmare on the offensive glass. His long arms will create some havoc on the defensive side of the ball. Plus, he’s vegan. Being healthy should really help his endurance late in the series.

Former NBA Player Comparison: Andrei Kirelinko
Former NBA Current Player Comparison: Charlotte Hornet Michael Carter Williams

Game preview

The real key to the game will be team camaraderie. One team took a team photo, showing unity while the other team each went and had pictures made by themselves to display their cool lives (e.g. hanging out with the Game of Thrones author, going to Hollywood to try to break into acting, posing with a trophy ). The Drive with Russell Smith lets it be known who the team captain is with the name of the show. Will Chance and/or Yash be able to live up to Russell’s direction and demands? When adversity strikes and everyone turns to the captain, will he be able to keep the Titanic from sinking?

The Drive with Russell Smith comes into this match-up as huge favorites. Talk Sports has two players that describe themselves as “pass-first.” We all know that is a nice way to say that they cannot shoot a jump shot.
